Excerpt Iâm browsing through emails on my phone as I ride the elevator down to the lobby. It halts on the third floor, and I back up to let more people on. I donât lift my head up as the elevator starts again, but suddenly Iâm hit with the sound of laughter. Itâs innocent, young, and vibrant. Iâm intrigued, so I shift my body to get a better view of her. My eyes find the young girl in the front by the doors. I watch her from the side and notice sheâs on her phone. Sheâs smiling wide and laughing with whomever sheâs speaking to on the phone. The doors slide open, and I walk around a few people to exit, except the girl doesnât move and I crash right into the back of her, pushing us both out of the elevator before the doors close. Instinctively, I wrap my free arm around her waist to catch her from face planting the floor. Her back is pressed against my chest and for a moment, I donât want to let go. Her phone isnât as lucky. It slips out of her hand and lands on the lobby floor. âShit,â she curses and my arm frees her to bend down and grab it off the floor. âIâm so sorry,â I begin apologizing as I step back. My eyes wonder to her bare legs and up her tone thighs to a pair of black workout shorts. Sheâs wearing a baggy sweatshirt as if sheâd been running or working out. I can smell the fresh sweat on her, but it doesnât turn me off. In fact, it does the exact opposite. âThatâs okay.â Her voice cracks as she turns around, and I finally get a good look at her. âOh, Mr. Leighton,â she says surprised, and I immediately curse the bad luck that brings me to my new internâCasey West. âMiss West?â I finally say as she stares up at me in silence. âI thought you werenât coming until Saturday?â âHide your disappointment, Mr. Leighton.â The corners of her mouth perk up into a cocky smile. âI was just picking up the paperwork and doing all the background check questions.â Her witty personality is spot on just like the last time. This should be before Relentless. Sometimes, it takes more than love to mend a shattered heart. After eight years of being tossed around from one home to another, never forming any meaningful friendships or bonds with her foster families, Claire's caseworker gives her an ultimatum: Behave or your next home will be a halfway house. When fifteen-year-old Claire arrives at the home of Jackie Knight and meets Jackie's fifteen-year-old son, tattooed guitarist Chris, she fears she'll be seeing the inside of that halfway house soon. But Chris isn't like any other guy Claire has ever encountered and he soon gains her trust through his music and unwavering patience. Claire has finally found her forever home and she and Chris soon find themselves falling in love. Chris struggles deeply with his plans for the future, entirely reluctant to leave Claire behind; until Claire does something that may break their love â and the only home sheâs comes to know â forever. Chapter Eleven Chris Forever Addicted I tumble out of bed and drag myself out of my bedroom and into the hallway. When I push open the bathroom door, my eyes widen at what Iâve stumbled upon. Claire is standing next to the toilet, holding her new cell phone over the toilet bowl. Her lips are pressed together in a hard line across her delicate face. âWhat the fuck?â is the first thing that slips out of my mouth. âI donât want this thing anymore.â âPlease donât drop it in the toilet.â âWhat is the point of having a cell phone if you never answer it?â Oh, shit. Sheâs had this phone two months and itâs turned her into a crazy person. I donât dare say this out loud, but Iâm beginning to wish Iâd gotten her something else for her birthday. If I donât call her back within a few minutes, she accuses me of playing games. If she doesnât call me back right away, itâs because she was busy. I donât think she even realizes how insane this sounds. âWhat do you want me to do? Just tell me what you want and Iâll do it.â I inch closer to her and she smiles when she realizes she has my attention. âYou want me to promise Iâll never wait more than five minutes to call you back? Would that make you happy?â She loses the smile and purses her lips. âThis phone has turned me into an addict. I look at it every two minutes to check for missed calls and texts from you. Itâs sick!â I reach for her wrist and slowly move my hand down until the phone is in my hand. I place it gently on the bathroom counter, then I look her in the eyes. âBabe, youâre not addicted to your phone. Youâre addicted to me.â âShut up!â she smacks my chest and I try not to laugh too loud. I wrap my arms around her waist and pull her against me. Sheâs breathing hard as my lips hover over hers. âDonât you have to get ready for school?â âItâs a late day. I donât have to be at school for two and a half hours.â I smile. It actually makes me happy that I canât remember what day is a late day anymore since I quit school. The only regret I have about quitting school is that Claire is alone now. With Jake and Rachel graduated, and Tristan hanging out with his new girlfriend, Ashley, Claire says she spends most of her time outside of class reading. âGood, âcause I have plans for youâ¦. I gonna text you for two hours straight.â âYouâre such a jerk!â She tries to push me away and I lean in to kiss her. At first she closes her mouth, but she laughs when I plant a loud kiss on her cheek. And I seize the opportunity to kiss her hard. Seconds later, weâre lying on my bed, the sheets bunched up beneath her and my hand easing down her waist to her hip. She grabs my hand to stop me and I smile as I move my hand up. I trail my lips over her smooth jaw and plant a soft kiss on her neck. I hear a sniffing noise and I quickly pull my head back, afraid sheâs crying. âOh, my God. You smell so good,â she says, leaning forward so she can sniff my shoulder. âReally?â She grabs fistfuls of my T-shirt and brings them to her nose as she inhales. âYes! Is that some kind of cologne or something?â âNo, itâs laundry soap and you use the same one.â âNo, it has to be something else.â I reach up and lightly drag my fingertip across her jawline. âYeah, itâs laundry soap and my pheromones, which you obviously canât get enough of. Addict.â âShut up.â âWhat? Thereâs nothing wrong with that. I canât get enough of your scent either.â I bury my face in the crook of her neck and she lets out a soft gasp when I lick her skin. âYou smell sweet and salty at the same time, like raspberries with a hint of the beach. Itâs fucking intoxicating.â âReally?â she breathes. âThatâs what I smell like to you?â I nuzzle my nose against the sensitive spot behind her ear and she giggles softly. âSee what you do to me? I canât get enough of you.â I kiss her neck and her skin is so soft, I want to devour her. But I respect her boundaries. So minutes later, weâre on my bike on the way to drop her off at school. As usual, she plants a kiss on the front of my helmet, leaving a kiss mark on the glass. Then she bats my hand away when I try to grab her ass as she walks away. Something about this feels too perfect. I keep waiting for my mom to tell me that Claireâs being moved to another foster home. Or that my mom will find out about us and Claireâs caseworker will have her removed from our home. Something bad is coming. It could be next week or next year. All I know is that this canât continue the way it has. Itâs too perfect. Nothing in my life has ever been this good or easy. FOREVER OURS will be on sale for 99¢ on May 27th and 28th. She glanced around the large bedroom, the duvet and several pillows thrown on the floor. A grin spread across her face, thinking about the amazing sex she had with Alexander just a few hours earlier. She pried herself out of his arms and went in search of a much-needed bathroom. Grabbing her jeans and sweater, she threw them on before quietly walking over to the door, thankful when it didn’t creak and wake up Alexander. After finding a bathroom, she went to see if his mother needed any help getting things ready for that evening. The house was eerily quiet as she walked down the stairs searching for Colleen. “They must all be outside,” she said to herself. She headed in the direction of the back door, when a room off the hallway caught her eye. She stopped dead in her tracks, a memory rushing back. Her fifth birthday. Her mama had made her a cake in the shape of a Care Bear. She could have sworn she remembered her mama and the green-eyed boy from the dream sitting beside her in that very room, singing to her as she blew out the candles on that cake. Turning, she headed toward the ornate dining room, the table and chairs all covered with sheets. Walking around the room, she felt as if she had been there before, but that was impossible. She hadn’t even known Alexander for a year and this was the first time he invited her home with him. Still, the smell and sounds in that room were strangely familiar. She scanned the walls and her eyes settled on a large picture frame covered with a white sheet. The other portraits weren’t hidden. Curious, she slowly made her way to the center of the room where the enormous frame hung. She gingerly began to raise the sheet, wondering what was underneath. “Olivia, dear! There you are!” Colleen called out, startling her. She jumped, placing her hand over her chest. “Colleen. I’m sorry. I came downstairs to see if you needed any help, and I guess I got a little sidetracked.” She shrugged her shoulders, feeling guilty that she was caught snooping around. Colleen walked over to Olivia and placed her hands on her shoulders, trying to lead her out of the room and away from the large family portrait of Alexander and Olivia as children. “I understand. It happens to the best of us.” “Colleen,” Olivia said, raising her voice. “Why is that portrait covered up?” She stopped, turning to look at her. She hated having to lie to the poor girl, particularly when her son should have simply told her the truth by now. He swore he would tell her, and she didn’t want to interfere…not yet, anyway. “I’m sorry, Olivia. It’s just that whenever Alexander comes home, I try to rid the house of any memories of…” “Oh,” she said, understanding. “I should have known.” She turned to head back upstairs, her shoulders slightly dropping. “Olivia, dear!” Colleen called out. She stopped and faced her. “He loves you very much. I’ve never seen him so happy in all his life, even when he was a little boy.” She smiled before retreating back outside, leaving Olivia alone with her thoughts about Alexander and why the dining room in that house brought back memories of her fifth birthday.About the Author T.K. Leighs' books Once again Alisa never ceases to amaze me. This book is by far the best of the series. I cried even more while reading this book than I did in the first 2 books. Like the rest it was a must finish from the moment I opened the book. In this book we get more of a background of both Nick and Sam. Sam was Nicks close childhood friend, who is up to no good. She's a heartless woman willing to do anything to end a relationship that's just starting to bloom. She goes out of her way to cause Lizzie to leave Nick. You can't help but to hate her through half a little the book. Then bam, we get more of her story and you can't help but feel some what bad for her. Nick, oh sweet Nick. He's more than anyone woman can ask for. He's love for Lizzie is unconditional, he will move the world to prove to her that he loves her and her baby. He also would do anything for Sam, even if that includes making Lizzie mad. Once everything comes out I love Nick's alpha ways. He's more than willing to hurt the person that caused him and Lizzie so much pain. Oh and I cant forget the asshole Teagan, I can't believe the shit he was willing to do. I was so pissed that he not once mention the baby. I'm so glad Nick is more of a man willing to raise Niall as his own and love him as his own!! Thanks for the HEA for Nick and Lizzie, and for giving us Nick, Lizzie, Conner, Sean, Sam, Teagan, Freddie and all the rest of The Chosen characters. <3 Get the first 2 books of The Chosen series in a box set on amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KAB1TA4/ref=oh_d__o02_details_o02__i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 We are so excited to share the cover for Monica Murphy's HIS REVERIE!!! And when others discover we’re together, they’ll do whatever it takes to keep us apart. All I know is: I won’t let them. Because Reverie Hale? She’s mine. Add it to your TBR today!!! HIS REVERIE Goodreads EXCERPT: “Thirsty?” I jump at the sound of a soft female voice, my hand jerking so the hose splashes me right in the face. Muttering a curse, I drop the hose and reach out blindly, wrenching the faucet off with one hand as I swipe at my eyes with the back of the other. I hear the girl laugh and I whirl around, fully prepared to find some bratty preteen Hale daughter mocking me. But she’s not a preteen. Not even close. More like around my age. She’s tall and slender, her long blonde hair falling far past bared tan shoulders. She’s wearing some sort of sundress or whatever you call it and she’s pretty much covered since it hits just above her knees, though her arms are exposed since the dress is sleeveless. The sun catches her just right though, shining through the thin fabric of her skirt so I can see through it. My gaze drops and all I can see is long, long legs through the shadowy fabric. Damn. Those sexy legs are endless. She clears her throat, like she knows exactly where I’m looking and what I’m thinking and I jerk my gaze up guiltily to meet hers, feeling like a jackass. That’s when I notice her eyes are blue. As blue as the sky above us, and she’s so damn pretty, with delicate features and pink, pink lips, that I can’t seem to form words. “Who are you?” she asks curiously. Her voice washes over me, sweet and melodic and now it’s my turn to clear my throat to get the lump out so I can freaking speak. “Who are you?” I ask back like an idiot. She smiles shyly and my entire body reacts, a bolt of electricity seeming to go through me. “I asked first.” “Are you Hale’s daughter?” If she is, that sucks because holy hell she’s hot but yeah. She’s completely untouchable if she’s a Hale. “What if I am?” She kicks at the ground with her sandaled foot, her cheeks coloring the faintest pink. Innocence radiates from her. She looks like a damn angel and seems a little uncomfortable with me. Despite her seeming discomfort, I think she might be trying to flirt with me. “Well, I’d make sure and be extra polite to you since I work for your dad.” I go with the truth because I don’t want any problems from this girl. I probably shouldn’t even be alone with her. She could say anything, accuse me of something terrible and I’d have no defense. Her word against mine. And her word would win every single time. Another laugh escapes her and she slowly shakes her head. “I like your honesty.” I like everything about her so far but I keep my lips clamped shut. I’ve already said enough to make myself look like a total loser.“So I’m guessing you’re definitely Hale’s daughter?” ABOUT MONICA MURPHY: New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Monica Murphy is a native Californian who lives in the foothills below Yosemite. He took me back in or rather helped have all my things moved from the house I shared with Ian back to the apartment. I broke down several times as boxes were carried in and was in no shape to actually go over to the house to help pack my things. I spent the day on my bed, soaking my pillow in tears. I donât know what I would have done without Gavin. He rarely left my side at the hospital. He has been home caring for me almost night and day since I returned. I hate to think about the toll Iâm taking on his work and his social life. I know itâs selfish of me but I canât function without him right now. I need someone to lean on and for me; Gavin is the only one. Ian would have been the only one but⦠Well, I donât want to think about that right now. Dr. Somers was adamant that I rest my brain. No excessive reading or watching tv; nothing that would really stress my brain, just rest, is what he told me. Iâve tried to follow orders as best I can. Iâd thought about getting a place of my own when I left the hospital but Gavin would not hear of it. âGav, Iâm so sorry that you have to deal with all this. It canât be easy for you. I donât blame you with the media circus and everything if you donât want me to come back and live with you.â âStop it. I wonât listen to another word of that dribble. You will come home to our apartment and we will eat bad chinese, get drunk and go dancing. Once youâre feeling better that is. And thereâs nothing you can say to stop that.â Gavinâs so great to try to cheer me up. He knows I need someone to lean on and without Ian, well, I donât know what I would do without Gavin. My schedule has consisted of wake, run, lay in bed, go for an evening run on the days I donât meet with Dr. Reeves and then home to shower and go to bed for the night. It wouldnât have been too much of a stretch to say I was depressed. I knew I needed to talk with someone, a professional. Dr. Somers insisted upon it when I was in the hospital and introduced me to Dr. Reeves. When I first met with him, I didnât think I would ever be comfortable enough to share my story with him. Hell, I couldnât share it with the people that were closest to me, how would I share it with a complete stranger? But I guess that is what makes him the professional. From day one I shared my life with him and he helped me walk through what it all meant for my future. Iâve tried to contact Ian. The 100s of voicemails that probably went un-listened to, the texts that are too numerous for me to even fathom, daily emails and calls to his office and the house attest to the fact that I wanted to talk with him. Everything went unanswered. I still remember the pain in his voice from that brief time in the hospital. He was broken. Iâd done that to him. I wanted to wrap him my arms but couldnât even manage to open my eyes. I wanted to plead with him, to explain everything, to tell him it was the only way to protect him, to let him know that I planned to tell him everything that night before Dean came to the door. I just wanted to stop him from leaving. I remember hearing the door close and the knowledge that there was no going back hit me full force. Ianâs gone and Iâm left here. Alone. Nightmares have plagued me nightly since the attack. Iâm hopeful that therapy will help alleviate them if not stop them all together. I know they are a manifestation of my fear but I really donât want to be afraid anymore. Most nights Gavin has either had to calm me after the nightmare or sleep in my room because I canât bear to be alone afterward. Only once do we talk about Dean being at the hospital. Gavin said he looked like he was studying me. He didnât make any move to touch me but kept mumbling about coming back to him, being with him, loving him. Itâs hard to come to grips with the fact that Dean is essentially two people, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde if you will. Thereâs the one side that actually seems to care for me but itâs more the kind of care that a master has for his pet. Then thereâs the sadistic side, the side the reveled in my pain; the side that only wants to take, take from me, take from my father, take everything and that would kill me in the process. That Dean was the one I had come to know so well after our engagement. I tried so many times to break things off with him; either he would convince me to come back or force me to with threats, eventually I thought my fate was sealed. I had no idea anyone could be so cruel, evil. But Dean showed me time and again that I had no idea what real evil was until him. S.M. Anyone could have those four things, but only one could have VIP. Becoming Madam was never a choice for me, it was a mandated order from the most powerful woman I knew- my mother. I was born to fill her shoes, never to make mistakes, or to show weakness. You are the product of your environment. They say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree; you learn from what you see, not from what you're told. Nature vs. Nurture. I learned from it all; what I saw, what I didn't see, what I was told, and from reading between the lines. I was raised with the belief that the world spun ONLY because of me. I held power as far back as I can remember, saw things no one ever talks about, and witnessed illegal acts of sex, drugs, and money by the time I was eighteen. You saw a glimpse of me in VIP, now see it from the beginning. Enter my world where anything goes; no judgments, no remorse, no guilt. You play by my rules, or you don’t play at all. There are no limits to what I can do, or to what I can show you…I will ensure my legacy my any means necessary. My name is Lilith Veronica Stone, and I am The Madam. Dark content/sex/drugs/language. She was pure perfection, her beauty along with a flawless body had men lined up, driveling over her ensuring her success as a VIP.
